Tell us a little about why you’re a bicycle-supporting business and a little about your business, in general.
The Yellow Bike Project is a non-profit community bike shop dedicated to getting more people on bikes in Austin. We have workshop hours for anyone to come and learn how to fix their own bike, we recycle used bikes for sale and donation, we welcome people of all ages to volunteer their time, and in exchange, learn valuable mechanic skills for free. We also teach focused classes on specific areas. Check our website for class schedules!

Why did you decide to become a Bike Austin small business member/partner?
We recently started buying Bike Austin memberships for anyone purchasing a bike at YBP to help grow the movement because Bike Austin is THE voice for cyclists in our City. We know we can rely on Bike Austin to be there at important community meetings where any changes to our bicycle infrastructure are at stake

Why did you decide to become a Bike Austin small business member/partner?
We are excited to partner with Bike Austin because we know that our city can be a place where people can breathe clean air and enjoy safe, fun streets if only more people would choose bicycling over driving. Making this choice is important, and we want to help spread the word that a better city is possible!

Why do you think Bike Austin is important to the Austin cycling community?
Over the last few decades the Austin cycling community has been a vibrant part of the social fabric but marginalized politically. We need Bike Austin to project a unified voice for the interests of the cyclists of Austin: for space on the road, a voice in City Council, and to keep a watchful eye out for us!

Why/how are donations important to Bike Austin’s Advocacy Fund and education programs?
The Yellow Bike Project decided to provide a free Bike Austin membership with each bike sold because we need to spread the word about the need for advocacy and to financially support it at the same time. Our hope is that people who buy a bike at YBP become lifetime cyclists and decide to play an active role in making Austin a better city to live in by riding a bike and supporting Bike Austin. The bigger the membership, the louder our voice will be. Austin may never have car-free streets if we do not support local advocacy!
