Last December, Bike Austin members stepped up and donated enough money to purchase two C3FT devices – new technology that detects how closely a car passes a bike.  With the two C3FT in hand, the Austin Police Department will begin enforcement of unsafe passing this November.  Soon enough, we’ll all have a bit more room to breath when we’re out on two wheels.  In the meantime, stay tuned for initial results from their first operations.

The donation of the two C3FT devices stemmed from Bike Austin’s monthly roundtables with the Austin Police Department – community forums for bicyclists to give feedback directly to APD.  In addition to the Safe Passage enforcement, Bike Austin is also working with the APD to update and clarify officer trainings on bicycle law.  For more information on our monthly APD roundtables, please contact Mercedes Feris, Executive Director.
