Bike Austin Membership Approves Declaration of Intent to Merge

By the close of the ballot on November 13th, the Bike Austin Membership approved, by a vote of 91 to 6, a Declaration of Intent to Merge with Austin Cycling Association. This approval, along with approval of the same declaration by both boards, provided conclusive authorization for the Bike Austin Board to enter into formal merger negotiations with Austin Cycling Association.

In late November 2013, the two organizations hired a consultant, Jeremy Grandstaff of S&G Endeavors, to guide the organizations through the merger discussion as part of a strategic planning and organizational development process. Members of both boards and staff met December 8th to continue the merger discussion and agree on a process and timeline for the remainder of the discussion. The final details for a merger are expected to be brought to both boards for votes at their January meetings, with a final vote to Bike Austin Membership expected for late January or February.
